In a numerological chart, personal or comparative, it is also helpful to look at the compatibility of numbers. Are one's Life Path, Expression Number, and other core numerology numbers in conformity, or in conflict with each other?
In one's detailed numerological profile we have quite a few numerological numbers. Among them we usually find almost all the numbers from 1 to 9, and perhaps some master number 11 or 22. That is not surprising because each of us is a multifaceted personality. There are many different energies within us, and they all want to express themselves.
Some of the numerological numbers and their energies are in harmony with each other. Others are in disharmony and thus cause internal contradictions and conflicts within us.
Therefore, in a detailed numerological chart, personal or comparative, we also have to look at the compatibility of numbers. Are one's Life Path, Expression Number, and other core numerology numbers "in conformity," or "in conflict" with each other?
The combinations of numbers that are "comfortable" with each other are harmonious. And the combinations that don't get on so well are disharmonious or discordant.
Discordant numbers can create a dissonance in our personality - until we learn to accept those different vibrations as our own. Our task is to respect all parts of our personality, represented by various numerology numbers. And to bring our disharmonious parts to balance and cooperation.
In a table below we can see which numbers in numerology get on well, and which of them are conflicting each other.

Green combinations of numbers are harmonious. Red combinations are discordant. Equal numbers are harmonious and discordant at the same time.
Note: Different numerologists attach different values to the relationships between numbers. All of these systems give more or less good results, but we prefer to use the above table, which is the result of an in-depth radiesthesia research.
MATCHING BETWEEN KEY NUMBERS
When we make a numerology chart for an individual, we first analyse five core numerology numbers. These are Life Path Number, Expression Number, Soul Urge Number, Personality Number and Maturity Number.
In a detailed analysis, we also look at how these core numbers agree with each other.
First example. If the Life Path number is 1 and the Expression number is 2, we look at the Table of Correspondence Between Numbers and see that their relationship is discordant. This means that one has to make a special effort in life to reconcile the individualistic energy of number 1, which has to be the leader, with the energy of number 2, which is most comfortable as part of a team. We have to ensure that these different energies do not undermine each other and that both can come out in a healthy way.
Second example. If our Life Path number is 1 and our Expression number is 3, we see in the Table of Correspondence Between Numbers that their relationship is harmonious. This means that we can use the synergy of their energies to our advantage in our lives. Perhaps by channeling our artistic sense, which is brought about by the energy of the number 3, into the pioneering spirit inherent in the energy of the number 1.
Only a few people have all their core numbers in harmonious relationships. For the vast majority, some core numbers are compatible and some are not.
It is important to understand that harmonious relationships between numbers are not inherently good, and that discordant relationships are not inherently bad. In fact, discordant relationships between numbers are beneficial for personal growth. They are life challenges that test us to see how we will react even in tense situations and relationships. Some discordant relationships between numbers are therefore healthy and should not be a cause for concern.
Some people have extremely dissonant combinations, but they transform them from a hindrance into an opportunity for rapid spiritual growth. Yet others may have very harmonious energies that theoretically make their personal growth easier, but unfortunately they stagnate in complacency and fail to take advantage of the opportunity.
If we have a combination of numbers with conflicting energies, we might ask ourselves:
To help you compare the core numbers, we have created the table below, which shows graphically all ten possible relationships between the core numbers:
TABLE OF CORRESPONDENCE BETWEEN CORE NUMBERS
Life Path Number | Expression Number | Soul Urge Number | Personality Number | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Life Path Number | ||||
Expression Number | ||||
Soul Urge Number | ||||
Personality Number | ||||
Maturity Number |
In the blank white boxes, write plus signs (for harmonious relationships) and minus signs (for disharmonious relationships) to get an overview of their compatibility.
This table can also be helpful when we are considering changing our name. In this case, sum up all the minuses or discordant relationships between the core numbers.
If we have up to four discordant relationships, it is probably not reasonable to change the current name, unless we have a very specific reason for doing so. If we have five or six discordant relationships, a name change is sometimes a good idea, although it may be wiser to try to see the existing disharmonies as a challenge for personal growth. But if we have seven or more discordant relationships, a name change may be a viable alternative.
Of course, this is only a rough calculation and should not be the sole basis for a name change. For details on choosing a new name, see the page Name Correction Numerology.
2. LIFE PATH AND PERSONAL YEAR NUMBERS
If we have a feeling that we are torn between different conflicting energies in our lives, it is very likely that we have many discordant relationships between our core numbers.
It is also possible that we have mostly harmonious relationships between our core numbers, but are currently facing major difficulties. In this case, the number of our Personal Year we are currently in is often the "culprit".
Let's compare our Life Path number with our current Personal Year number. If we find that the two are in disharmony, we can trust that the difficulties will soon subside, and with this understanding we can more easily get through the crisis.
3. LIFE PATH AND DAY OF BIRTH NUMBERS
It is also interesting to see the matching between our Life Path and Day of Birth numbers. If they are in dissonance, others usually don't see our real person.
Let's say we have a Life Path number of 3 and we are born on the 8th of the month. The Day of Birth number shows our external appearance, so others may think we are only interested in business and that we are old-fashioned, but behind the cold facade of the number 8 is a Life Path 3 with a sense of humour and a fun spirit.
If you have a Day of Birth Number in disharmony with your Life Path Number, make sure you present your true face to others.
A special combination is when someone has the same Day of Birth and Life Path numbers, in which case he or she is like an open book to others and always says what is on his or her mind.
1. COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE NEW NAME WE ALREADY HAVE
What if we already got a new name in our life, which we ourselves use and which others also use to address us?
In this case, it is useful to make a comparative numerological analysis of our birth name and our new name. There are three numbers to consider: the Minor Expression Number, the Minor Soul Urge Number and the Minor Personality Number. The Expression number has the greatest weight in the analysis, the Soul Urge number a little less, and the Personality number still a little less.
a) The three numbers of the new name are first compared with the Life Path Number. This is to see if your new name is in tune with your life mission and your career as revealed by the Life Path Number. If the Life Path Number is more in tune with your birth name than with your new name, you should consider going back to your old name (for example, in the case of a woman who takes her husband's surname when she marries).
b) The three numbers of the new name are then compared with the corresponding numbers of the birth name:
c) Finally, the three numbers of the new name are compared with each other to see how harmonious they are. (This comparison has less weight than the comparisons with the Life Path and the numbers of the birth name.)
2. COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE NEW NAME IN CONSIDERATION
A numerological analysis of the matching of our new name numbers is also very useful when we are planning to change our name but don't know which one to choose. In this case, we can use the following table.
TABLE: MATCHING OF THE NUMBERS OF THE NEW NAME
Minor Expression Number | Minor Soul Urge Number | Minor Personality Number | |
---|---|---|---|
Life Path Number | 5 | 4 | 3 |
Expression Number | 5 | ||
Soul Urge Number | 4 | ||
Personality Number | 3 | ||
Minor Soul Urge Number | 2 | ||
Minor Personality Number | 1 | 1 |
The table contains all nine matching combinations of the numbers of our new name. The digits in the white boxes indicate the strength or influence of each combination (5 being the strongest energy and 1 the weakest).
For harmonious relationships, prefix the digit with a plus; for disharmonious relationships, prefix the digit with a minus. Finally, add all the numbers with pluses and separately all the numbers with minuses.
If the sum of the positive digits is greater than the sum of the negative digits, then that name is a good candidate for our new name. Obviously, the greater the difference between the positive and negative numbers, the better.
Of course, this is again only an approximate calculation and should not be the sole basis for a name change. For details on choosing a new name, see the page Numerology For Name Change.
1. MATCHING OF THE CORE NUMBERS OF TWO PARTNERS
A match or mismatch between the core numbers of the two partners is usually a good indication of their compatibility.
When doing a comparative numerological analysis between two partners, we first examine the core numerology numbers of both partners. Then we look at how much the five core numbers of one partner correspond with the five core numbers of the other partner.
The Life Path number is very important in a love relationship. If the Life Path numbers of both partners are harmonious, such a relationship will run smoothly. However, if they are discordant, the partners need to reconcile their different life priorities, careers and missions.
The Expression Number is also very important in a comparative partnership analysis, as it represents one's talents and abilities. If both partners' Expression Numbers are harmonious, they will more easily find a common direction in life. If they are discordant, however, the couple will need more patience to reconcile their characters and occupations.
In a comparative analysis, the Soul Urge Number tells us whether the partners are 'soul mates'. If their Soul Urge numbers are in harmony, it will be easier for them to understand each other's soul needs. If, on the other hand, they are discordant, the partners will have to work harder to help each other fulfil their heart's desires.
The Personality Number shows our outward personality. This is of course important in a relationship, although in the long run the other key numbers are more important for a successful relationship.
In partners relationship, we must also analyse the Maturity Number. Its vibration emerges in mid-life and is therefore very important for the survival of the relationship in the "mid-life crisis". If both partners' Maturity Numbers are in harmony, they can more easily understand their dreams and desires, which manifest around the age of 40 and are very important to their partner for a meaningful, fulfilling and happy life. If, however, they are in disharmony, both partners will need to delve deeper into what is the meaning of life for their partner.
In a partnership relationship, some numerologists also compare the Day of Birth number, reduced to a single digit number. This number mirrors how others see us when we first meet. It is useful to know whether our partner's Day of Birth number is in disharmony with his or her Life Path number, in which case the first impression of him or her does not give the true picture.
2. MATCHING OF NEW NAME NUMBERS OF BOTH PARTNERS
SIf the partners use a new name, we can also analyse the correspondence between the three numbers of their new names: the Minor Expression number, the Minor Soul Urge number and the Minor Personality Number.
If only one partner uses the new name, then its Minor Expression number is compared with the other partner's Expression Number, and so on.
To help with partnership comparison, we can use the following table:
TABLE: MATCHING OF PARTNERS' NUMBERS
Numerology Number | Partner 1 | Partner 2 | Matching |
---|---|---|---|
CORE NUMBERS | |||
Life Path Number | 5 | ||
Expression Number | 5 | ||
Soul Urge Number | 4 | ||
Personality Number | 4 | ||
Maturity Number | 5 | ||
Day of Birth Number | 1 | ||
NEW NAME NUMBERS | |||
Minor Expression Number | 2 | ||
Minor Soul Urge Number | 1 | ||
Minor Personality Number | 1 |
Enter all the core numbers of both partners in the table. If the partners are using a new name, then enter the three numbers of their new names, too. (If only one partner is using a new name, then enter the corresponding numbers of the birth name of the other partner.)
The digits in the MATCHING column indicate the strength or influence of each combination (5 being the strongest and 1 being the weakest). For harmonious relationships, prefix the digit with a plus sign, and disharmonious relationships with a minus sign.
Now, sum up all the numbers with pluses, and separately all the numbers with minuses. If the sum of the positive numbers is greater than the sum of the negative numbers, the pair has a good chance of success. Obviously, the greater the difference between the positive and negative numbers, the better.
However, if the sum of the negative numbers is greater, the couple is generally less likely to succeed. But of course, even such a relationship can be successful if the partners work hard to understand and genuinely accept each other's differences.
On the other hand, even a numerologically harmonious relationship is not always a guarantee of success. When partners (or one of them) live on the negative side of their vibrations, they cannot receive the love they could otherwise have. This is because each number has its positive side as well as its negative side. In her book Love by the Numbers, numerologist Glynis McCants writes that in a love relationship, we need to ask ourselves honestly whether the person we are interested in is living on the positive side of their core numbers. If they live on the negative side, and this is especially true if they indulge in alcohol or drugs, the relationship cannot be successful, no matter how good the numerological compatibility.
When the sum of the negative numbers is much greater than the sum of the positive numbers, then we really have to ask ourselves whether it is worth the effort. It is bound to be a very turbulent relationship. The 'chemistry' has made you feel very attracted to each other at the beginning, but the question is whether you will be able to understand and adapt to each other when your relationship is tested in difficult situations in life. But even in such cases there are rare exceptions that prove the rule - relationships in which both partners live on the positive side of their vibrations and develop their relationship with mutual respect.
3. MATCHING OF PERSONAL YEAR NUMBERS
Sometimes we have a difficult time with our partner and may even think of separating or divorcing - even if we are mostly numerologically compatible. If this is the case, Glynis McCants advises us to compare our Personal year numbers. If we find that they are in disharmony, we can trust that the problems will soon be over, and with this understanding we can get through the crisis more easily.
